INCIDENT #128 · OSPF

Data center: The service edge loses its neighbor

Medium25 minutesPro lab

The incident

Application workers connect to database and connection-pool subnets through separate access and service aggregation layers. Client, partner and service access branches attach to different vertices of a routed core triangle. The directly connected service-edge link responds, but the OSPF adjacency across it is absent. Other adjacencies and monitoring traffic remain healthy. Investigate database connectivity from R1: 10.166.224.0/24 to 10.166.234.0/24 (TCP/5432), and 10.166.225.0/24 to 10.166.235.0/24 (TCP/6432).

Your objective

Restore both authorized service transports and return reachability, including clients and service hosts in both halves of the primary subnet. Keep R4 blocked from both service transports, keep SSH blocked to both service subnets, and preserve monitoring between R1 and R3. Do not change physical topology or addressing. These are network forwarding checks, not application-level transactions.
